I always find myself needing to show or hide my desktop icons for presentations or screen-sharing with clients or colleagues. Instead of the usual 'drag and drop' into one
misc folder, the icons can be hidden with the Terminal.app.
The Mac OSX Yosemite command is a simple boolean. Open Terminal.app and type:
Next relaunch the Finder.app with:
To show the icons, use the first command,
except switch the false at the end to true. Always remember to relaunch Finder.app again with:
Note: you can combine the Show/Hide and relaunching Finder.app by using:
